conchita-garnett.bmpConchita Garnett earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from LaSalle University and has over 17 years of experience working in computer programming. Her extensive knowledge comes from holding the positions of Systems Analyst and Database Programmer at several large corporations.  Currently, Conchita offers homework help courses in ASP.NET, C#, HTML, Visual Basic, SQL and database development in Microsoft Access.

Here’s what Conchita told us about herself and her tutoring experiences:

What was your favorite subject when you were a student? Why?
Conchita: Computer Science and programming courses were my favorite subjects when I was in college.  I found it very interesting to try to figure out what makes a computer perform thousands of calculations and processes in such a short time.  I also loved going to the computer lab to debug my programs.  I found that I could always figure out where the problem was in the code.  Some of the students in our class used to ask me questions because they knew that I could figure it out.

What motivated you to begin teaching/tutoring?
Conchita: I enjoy helping others obtain answers to computer related questions. Tutoring gives me an opportunity to share my knowledge with others.

Was there any particular teacher or class that really influenced you?
Conchita: I enjoyed my Data Structures class and the teacher that taught this class.  She would challenge us by having us create real time applications instead of following the examples in the book. This exercise enabled me to think in terms of how the computer interprets data.

What do you think are the challenges of teaching/tutoring?
Conchita: I think that the challenges of teaching/tutoring are that you always have to be prepared in the subject that you are teaching because you never know what questions the student may need help with.

What do you like best about tutoring online?
Conchita: I like online tutoring because it allows me to tutor students from the convenience of my home and is convenient for the student as well.

What do you think makes you a successful tutor? What are some important qualities of an online tutor?
Conchita: I believe that I am a successful tutor because I use all of my resources when I provide answers to students online.  I also provide the knowledge that I have obtained from programming in the business sector for over 15 years, and the knowledge that I obtained from receiving my Bachelor’s in Computer Science degree. I believe that it is important for an online tutor to have patience and follow through with all assignments from students.

Thanks, Conchita!
