Help; I need a Statistics Tutor!

March 3, 2008 – 8:29 pm by S T

Want a statistic? I’ll give you one. Statistics happens to be one of the most popular tutoring subjects on our site. In fact; it may very well be the THE hottest tutoring topic on our site. But, I’ll never confess to that. Guess why? Because my Bar Mitzvah session is hands-down the coolest of cool. Yes. I tutor as well on the site. And why not? A man has got to make a living…

Not sure what it is…. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think stats are the only subject that is being taught in colleges!

FYI; this is a typical statistics question we get from grad students:

Hi GlobalScholar. My name is Henry. I am a college student. I live in a dorm with three frat brothers. Whenever we order a pie of pizza, there are usually no slices left over. Just a few scraps of crust. We generally tuck the remnants in our rumpled recliner; for a rainy day. Now, here’s the question; what are the odds that one day the collective crusts will conjoin and form their very own pie? Sincerely, Henry.

P.S. I need the answer ASAP. This assignment is due last week.

As you can see, we deal with very serious educational matters…

In brief, here’s how a typical scenario will play itself out. A student will search our site for a statistics tutor. The search result will yield a bunch of options. Similar to a typical ecommerce site, like amazon.com, you can use the controls on the site (to the left) to refine your results. For example, if you are looking to schedule a tutoring session, you can select “scheduled”. This filter will narrow your options.

You can further hone into exactly what you are looking for by using the drop-down sort feature. For example, you can sort the results by price (low to high and high to low). Best of all, you can sort the options by highest rated!

So, if I were to do preform these search prompt for statistics tutoring, I’d end up with these fellows. Just like you can choose a seller on ebay.com based on their ratings and reviews, globalscholar.com allows you to do the same with tutors. Brilliant!

To prevent fraud, only students who have actually taken the specific tutoring session, can leave a review + rating on the course.

P.S. If you enjoyed this blog post, (I know you did) feel free to leave a review; aka a “comment”!

  2. Hmm….I enjoyed this post until I got to the ‘fellows’ part.

I am not a ‘fellow’ and I am one of the stats tutors on globalscholar. I also have some very lovely reviews.

Language is the crux of the subject I teach (yes, stats is a new language!) so I am kind of sensitive to it’s misuse.
