Good grades often reflect a student’s understanding of their school subjects and the amount of work and dedication they put into homework assignments, tests and projects.
While it is primarily up to your child to succeed in school, parents also play an important role in their child’s academic success. Here are a few ways to stay involved in your child’s education and help them earn and maintain good grades.
1. Get to know your child’s teacherTalk with their teacher about the classroom curriculum, grading criteria and exchange contact information. Fully understand the teacher’s expectations.2. Create a calendar
Help your child stay on top of their studies by tracking important tests, projects, reports and other events.
3. Don’t miss parent-teacher conferences
This is the best time to discuss your child’s progress and get a feel for where they are struggling. Be sure to discuss ways to improve their study skills or how to improve their weaknesses.
4. Talk to your child about their homework
This is the time to ask questions. Ask them if they need any help or when they plan on completing their homework assignment. Ask if they can explain to you what the homework assignment is about.
5. Encourage your child
By playing an active role in your child’s education you are showing them that you care and that you are there for help. Be sure to provide them with praise for good grades and positive encouragement for fair grades.
Another important measure to take is to evaluate where your child is compared to state standards. GlobalScholar has a complete database on state standard assessments so you can gauge where your child is in their understanding and the areas they need improvement.
