"Will somone just do my homework for me?" If you are a teacher, tutor or parent, chances are that you have heard this phrase before.
Homework just isn't on the top 10 most fun activities list for students.
It can be challenging for a student to see the significance in homework assignments and even more challenging as a parent to provide them with a meaningful explanation as to why it is important. As a tutor, the challenge comes in helping the student do the homework and not actually doing the homework for them.
So, here are a couple ways to answer the question, “How is homework important?”.
1. Homework serves as an intellectual discipline that establishes good study habits
2. Homework helps to keep classes shorter, as less curriculum material needs to covered in class
3. Homework supplements what is learned in the classroom, and therefore helps add meaning to what you learn
4. Homework fosters student independence and initiative – skills necessary for success later in life
5. Homework is strongly related to student achievement and those that complete homework assignments almost always do better in school
6. Completing homework assignments helps student score better on tests
7. On average, students who completed their homework assignments scored much higher on their SAT and ACT than students who did not regularly complete their homework assignments- which greatly helps your chances of getting into college or receiving scholarships
Even with the above reasons, there will always be students asking for someone else to do their homework for them. This may simply be a result of not understanding the material. So make it easier for students by helping them learn and actually understand how to apply this knowledge to the real world.
Need more help? Hire a tutor. Tutors do more than just help a student complete an assignment; they help them learn the subject. Simply completing a homework assignment only gets the job done; the real benefit comes from obtaining an actual understanding.
