While weekends are a time for relaxation and a break from school, it can also be a great time to get in some fun educational activities. I know it seems wrong to put weekend and educational in the same sentence, but believe, you will enjoy these.
Fun Educational Activities
Not only will this provide you with something to wear on Halloween, it will also stir up your imagination and creative side. See how clever you can be with your costume this year.
Baking is a great way to practice your measurement and reading skills, while carefully following directions and spending time together in the kitchen. The best part – your hard work is sweetly rewarded.
Whether it’s a jazz concert at the local mall or your favorite artist, music is good for the soul and can increase creativity, comprehension and may inspire you to be musical yourself.
- Visit a State/National Park
State and National parks are great places to hike and enjoy nature. Pick up a book on your area’s natural vegetation and take a nature walk.
This is mostly for older students at the middle or high school level. Visiting a college campus can provide a glimpse into what college is like and builds excitement and may inspire you to work hard in school so you can get into the college of your choice.
Every city has a past and a story to tell – check it out. Visit your city hall or tourism department and pick up a historical map of the city or sign up for a tour.
Order pizza and sit down with the family for some old-fashioned fun. Games like Catch Phrase and Scattergories are my personal favorite and get the whole family involved.
Fall is one of the prettiest seasons, so why not capture it? Visit a botanical garden or walk around a local park with cameras, taking pictures and sharing them on the TV when you get home.
- Do something you’ve never done before
Variety is the spice of life, so get out of your old routine. Have you ever been to a fish hatchery, seen a water treatment plant, been to your state capital or been to a play? If so, why not? Trying new things can open up new interests and help you keep an open mind.
