Today is the official opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Tuesday will be the official opening of the fourth annual Brain Health, Smile, Peace Olympiad.
Starting August 12 the United Nations will begin their three-day event of brain Olympics. The competition includes more than 500 children and adults, participating in events which test their mind’s ability.
Dr. Sung Less, International Brain Education Association Secretary, sums it up like this:
“The Brain Olympiad showcases the potential of the mind, exploring the role of motor, sensory, emotional and cognitive systems as they work together.”
The Brain Olympiad is all about creating new pathways to solve world problems and to show that the human brain is capable of far more than we previously believed.
Olympiad participants learn to become more confident in who they are and to recognize that through concentration and focus they can dive into deeper thought and achieve more than they thought possible. They will become more responsible leaders and fully understand that individual value is determined by how they use their brain.
Events include:
• Motor SystemContestants must hold their body in demanding isometric postures to promote overall circulatory wellness.• Speed Brain
Contestants must extract detailed information about multiple visual symbols in a fraction of a second.• Brain Window
Contestants must identify colors and letters from an envelope without using ordinary visual sensory input.• Body Sense Perception
Contestants must identify a liquid without using ordinary visual sensory input.
