Why should I teach through GlobalScholar?
You can focus on teaching and helping students meet their educational goals
— and let GlobalScholar handle the administration, payments,
and technology so that you can focus on teaching.
You choose your own schedule, the subjects you teach, and how much you
charge. In addition, students go to GlobalScholar.com and find you,
so you don’t have to spend time looking for them!

What is involved in applying to be a teacher on GlobalScholar?
- Complete an application that provides us with standard information about you and your teaching background.
- Get free training from GlobalScholar, including how to navigate our site and use our tools,
which include the interactive whiteboard used during teaching sessions.
- GlobalScholar completes a background check on you. The kind of check depends on the country
in which you live: In the United States, this includes verification of your credentials
and a criminal history check.
Once these are complete, you're ready to teach!

What qualifications do I need to be a teacher on GlobalScholar?
While GlobalScholar teachers and tutors come from a wide variety of backgrounds,
all must have completed a four-year degree. Some are teachers —
whether full-time, substitute, or retired — and some are students in teaching
degree programs. Other GlobalScholar teachers
are tutors who work for themselves, for example, in a professional capacity or
with tutoring companies. While teaching certification is not required to teach on
GlobalScholar, most students prefer that their instructors have teacher training.
For this reason, if you have such training, make sure you mention it in
your teacher biography on GlobalScholar.com.
In addition to the academic requirements, potential GlobalScholar teachers
must pass a criminal background check. GlobalScholar stresses to its students and their
parents that online instruction is safe, and this routine check promotes a
professional educational environment.

Do I need special software to do this?
No. Simply use a standard web browser — for example, Microsoft Internet Explorer —
and a high-speed Internet connection. For better performance, we recommend that you use a broadband
Internet connection, for example, cable or DSL. If you use a dial-up Internet connection and
attempt to use GlobalScholar's whiteboard, you can experience slow performance and interrupted
connectivity; this can affect the quality of teaching sessions.
When you use GlobalScholar and work with students, you can use GlobalScholar's
chat and voice tools, or our interactive whiteboard.
While some users find it convenient to use a headset with a microphone for the voice feature, or a
digital pen and pad for the whiteboard, using them is optional.

How will I be paid? When will I get paid?
You get paid based on the services you provide through GlobalScholar.
After students purchase instructional time from you,
GlobalScholar pays you based on when you provide the service.
Payment Calendar for GlobalScholar Teachers:
| If you teach between these dates… |
|
Then GlobalScholar pays you on this date… |
| 1st of month and 15th of month |
|
20th of month |
| 16th of month and end of the month |
|
5th of the next month |
GlobalScholar pays by check in U.S. dollars (USD).
If you earn less than $10.00 USD during a pay period, payment is deferred.
When you earn an additional amount and the total is greater than $10.00 USD,
then GlobalScholar will issue you a check according to the payment calendar.
Payment calendar examples:
- A teacher joins GlobalScholar on January 5th and on January 10th completes two sessions at $40.00 USD each.
GlobalScholar sends the teacher a check on January 20th.
- A teacher answers five Homework Help questions at a rate of $1.00 USD per question during the first week of June.
Because the teacher delivers no other additional services through GlobalScholar, GlobalScholar does not pay the teacher on June 20th.
However, after the teacher completes two Scheduled Tutoring sessions worth $10.00 USD each during the last week of June,
GlobalScholar sends the teacher a check on July 5th.
Remember You do not get paid immediately after you receive orders from students.
After you receive orders and provide instructional services is when GlobalScholar issues payment.

What subjects can I teach?
Literally any subject! Unlike some sites, GlobalScholar does not limit the topics that you
teach. For the best educational experience, consider offering classes in your
area of expertise or in the specific field for your degree.
You can teach as many or as few subjects as you want.

What types of instruction does GlobalScholar support?
GlobalScholar supports several types of instruction, including:
- Instant Tutoring You decide when you are available. Students contact you during
that time for immediate help with problems in the subjects you teach.
- Scheduled Tutoring This is similar to traditional tutoring: you tell the student
when you are available; then, the student schedules a class — or several classes —
in advance.
- Homework Help With this type of instruction, you decide when you are available
to provide feedback, and you tell the student how long it will take you to respond.
- Self-guided Learning This is a non-interactive class where the student has no
direct contact with you. A student can purchase the class content for a flat rate
and use it for an open-ended time period. An SAT test prep class is an example of Self-Guided Learning.

When is GlobalScholar "open"? When would I work?
GlobalScholar is always available, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You choose the hours when you want to teach,
as many or as few hours as you want. Work the same schedule every week or change your hours regularly.
Note the following about teaching schedules:
- If you offer Instant Tutoring When you're at your computer and ready
to help students through Instant Tutoring, let students know.
Sign in to GlobalScholar.com, go to your Instant Help Manager, and click a button
to indicate to students that you are online and available.
- For traditional academic subjects For subjects like Math, English, Science,
and Social Studies in the United States, you'll find that scheduling is generally predictable.
Students typically want to schedule GlobalScholar teachers for classes during
afternoons and evenings, Sunday through Thursday, September through June.
- Growing opportunities with global students GlobalScholar continues to grow
in popularity globally, meaning students and teachers are from around the world and living
in different time zones. As a result, the most popular teaching times are also expanding,
giving you more opportunities to teach through us.

How does the "satisfaction guaranteed" policy affect teachers?
GlobalScholar encourages students and parents to resolve issues by working directly with teachers.
For example, if a student has a complaint about your availability or instruction, expect the student
to contact you. If a student cannot resolve an issue with you, he or she has the
option of contacting GlobalScholar Customer Service. If GlobalScholar receives complaints
about your instruction or professionalism, GlobalScholar can temporarily suspend your classes.
In particular, we take the Privacy Policy very seriously.

What is Name Your Price?
Name Your Price is a special offer on GlobalScholar.com that lets students get the help they need for an assignment,
homework, and more at the price they want to pay.
When a student submits a question using Name Your Price, the question goes to many tutors for bidding.
This means that if the student already have a preferred tutor with whom he or she would prefer to work, the student should schedule a regular session instead.
Here is how it works:
- The student submits a question.
The student goes to Name Your Price and selects the subject, topic, and grade (for example, 12th grade trigonometry).
Next, the student types the question and describes it, for instance, to clarify help is needed.
Next, the student names a desired price for an answer and sets a deadline. After tutors review the question,
tutors submit counter offers (bids) to the student.
The student accepts the tutor he or she wants.
- The student reviews tutor bids.
Once the student receives a tutor reply by e-mail, he or she goes to the
student GlobalScholar home page and, under Name Your Price, reviews the tutor bid.
Then, the student can accept the bid and pay.
- The student receives your answer.
After the student receives an e-mail reply that an answer is ready,
he or she goes to the student GlobalScholar home page and, under Name Your Price, views the response.

What is GlobalScholar's
Teacher No-Show refund policy
A student qualifies for a teacher no-show refund in either of the following situations:
- There was no interaction between the teacher and the student.
- The teacher did not connect and wait through the first five minutes of the session for the student to join.

Can I teach or tutor elsewhere if I'm working with GlobalScholar?
What if I already have students that I meet in person?
Yes, you can teach elsewhere in addition to teaching at GlobalScholar — a school, face-to-face
tutoring, another tutoring company, or even another tutoring website. While other companies and
websites may have certain restrictions, GlobalScholar accepts that you teach where and when you want. You
don’t work for GlobalScholar; you work with GlobalScholar. Ask your existing students if they want
to try taking a class with you on GlobalScholar. They might like it, and you could
save time and travel — and earn a bit more as a result.
Top
What if I have a tutoring business and other people work for me?
If you want, you can move your entire business to GlobalScholar!
It's easy for you to set up a GlobalScholar provider organization
(also known on GlobalScholar as an org) that you use to set up
and manage your teachers or tutors. Using a provider organization,
you control their schedules, what they teach, and what they charge.
Top
What is an org on GlobalScholar?
"Org" is short for provider organization. For more information, see the previous FAQ item.

How do reviews and ratings work?
After a student completes your GlobalScholar class, the student can review it.
A GlobalScholar review includes the student rating of the overall experience from one star to five
stars, with five stars representing the highest rating. Students are also encouraged to
include a brief description of your teaching, and to explain the reason for the number of
stars they give you. When other students and parents look for a new teacher on GlobalScholar, they
see any student reviews and ratings...and they are usually more interested in teachers with five-
and four-star ratings.
Here are suggestions for what you can do to get good reviews and ratings:
- Teach only your best subjects. GlobalScholar averages together the ratings
you receive for all your subjects. At the end of a session, check with students
to see if there is any material they did not fully understand, or anything they think you could do better.
- Practice with GlobalScholar tools. Make sure you're skilled using the online tools,
including the voice and whiteboard features. You don't want to get a low rating simply
because a student couldn't read your handwriting on the whiteboard, or couldn't hear you on the voice feature.
- Build good working relationships with students. Be encouraging, ask clarifying questions, sympathize
when they are struggling with the material, and offer specific solutions that are
well-matched to their problems. Give students a chance to show you what they have
learned, and tell them how well they are doing. Successful, happy students give
higher ratings to teachers.

How do I get more students?
On GlobalScholar, students find you. To get more students, try the following:
- Write a great teacher biography. When you apply to teach on GlobalScholar,
you prepare a short biography that explains who you are and what you teach.
By reading these biographies, a student finds the teacher that's the right fit.
When you write or revise your GlobalScholar biography, it helps to read examples of
good biographies and understand what works — and even to read bad biographies
to get an idea of what to avoid saying. To make your biography effective, mention
your teaching certifications, degrees, tutoring experience, and any special qualifications that set you apart.
- Teach the most popular subjects. Even though GlobalScholar lets you teach any subject,
the most popular subjects include business classes, such as Accounting,
Finance, and Economics. Also popular are core academic subjects such as English, Math, and Science.
If you are qualified to teach any of these, emphasize them.
- Earn great ratings. When parents and students search GlobalScholar for teachers, the teachers
with the highest ratings are at the top of the search results list. If you want more students in the future,
get four-star and five-star ratings from your current students now.
- Conduct free trial sessions. Students can try before they buy, and decide if you're the right tutor for them.
Although you are not paid for this tutoring, conducting free trial sessions helps you promote your courses.
- Get additional certification. While teachers on GlobalScholar are not required to be
certified teachers, note that many students value certification. Consider getting certified
as a tutor by a national association, or taking classes in online instruction.
After you complete certification, add it to your GlobalScholar biography.
- Offer multiple subjects. GlobalScholar lets teachers describe their subjects in many
ways. For example, if you are a math teacher, you can list “Math” as a subject
and you can also list specific math classes, such as Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus,
or Elementary Math. Indicate only the subjects that you're qualified
to teach...and make sure that you describe those subjects in a clear, specific way.
- Tell people that you teach on GlobalScholar. If you teach or tutor outside GlobalScholar,
tell your students to try a class on GlobalScholar. You might be able to save
time and travel by bringing your existing students to the online world.

How can I make myself available for instant tutoring and free trials?
You can easily announce your availability when you're ready to connect with new and prospective students, and you want to do the following:
- Tutor on a more flexible, unscheduled basis.
- Generate additional income above what you're earning through scheduled tutoring sessions.
- Get new students by conducting short free trial sessions.
Free trial sessions allow students to try working with you to decide if you're the right tutor for their needs. Although you are not paid for this tutoring, conducting free trial sessions helps you promote your courses and set up paid scheduled tutoring with new students. During a free trial session, the student has the option to purchase additional time with you. With free trial sessions, time is limited typically to 10 minutes.
To set your online status, click My GlobalScholar. On At a Glance, click Start Tutoring Manager, then follow the instructions on the page to set your availability.
