You can use GlobalScholar to easily find teachers in dozens of subjects, from kindergarten through graduate level, to meet your educational needs. You can learn on your own schedule, and teaching can take place anywhere that you have a computer and an Internet connection. There are several ways to connect with a teacher, including Instant Tutoring, Scheduled Tutoring, Homework Help, and Self-guided Learning. Also, all teachers have a minimum of a four-year degree and, for your safety, we have completed background checks. For safety and convenience, GlobalScholar automatically records all classes, and parents are encouraged to view their child’s classes. You can purchase as much or as little time as you need. Regardless of what you choose, GlobalScholar guarantees your satisfaction: if you are not completely satisfied with your class, we'll provide you with a full refund.

What kind of computer and software do I need?

Here are recommendations for having a good experience while using GlobalScholar.com:

Note that the following browsers are not recommended for use with this site, particularly when connecting for a session using GlobalScholar’s whiteboard. Students and teachers use the whiteboard as a communications tool.

When you connect with a teacher on GlobalScholar and use chat, voice, and the site’s whiteboard, the following can improve your learning experience — but are not required:

  • A headset with a microphone

What kind of Internet connection should I use?

For good performance, we recommend that you use a high-speed, broadband Internet connection, for example, cable or DSL. However, we do not recommend that you use a broadband satellite Internet connection with this site, particularly for online learning sessions that use the site's whiteboard.

Note If you use a dial-up Internet connection and attempt to use GlobalScholar’s whiteboard, you can experience slow performance and interrupted connectivity.

GlobalScholar makes it easy to find a teacher, schedule courses, and purchase teaching time. Online learning is like meeting with a teacher in person, face-to-face, even though you're in different places. GlobalScholar includes simple, powerful tools any learner can use to communicate and share.

  • Talk to and listen to your teachers.
  • Send messages to your teachers. Read your teacher's replies.
  • Write, draw, and type using GlobalScholar's whiteboard.
  • Send documents to your teachers. Receive documents from them.
  • Help protect your online identity. When you e-mail your teacher, GlobalScholar sends your message securely and hides your real e-mail address.

For safety and convenience, GlobalScholar automatically records all sessions. Doing this allows students to review sessions at a later time, which supports mastery of lesson content and better learning overall. Also, parents can review their child's sessions to understand educational progress and become familiar themselves with online learning.

How does GlobalScholar protect my security?

GlobalScholar cares about your security and privacy. The following are ways we help protect you:

  • All financial transactions are secure and take place over a secure connection.
  • Sessions are recorded. Students can review these sessions later, as can parents. By doing so, parents can stay involved with their children's education and ensure that the teacher remains professional.
  • E-mail sent through the classroom is secure. Teachers don't see students' real e-mail addresses. Students don't see teachers' real addresses either.
  • Our Privacy Policy forbids any teacher or student from sharing personal information on the site.

How do I find the best teacher?

We want to help you make the right educational match to further your educational goals. At GlobalScholar, your online teachers are instructors, tutors, and experts in the educational community. While teachers don't work directly for GlobalScholar, we ensure their quality by requiring a minimum of a four-year degree and we complete a background check to verify their qualifications. When teachers apply to teach on GlobalScholar, they must attend a training course.

'Find the help you need!' tool

GlobalScholar gives you as a student the information you need to pick the best teacher. Examples of this information include the following:

  • The teacher's biography, which includes degrees, qualifications, experience, and subjects taught
  • Reviews and ratings by fellow GlobalScholar students
  • Teacher background information that we verify through background checks

What subjects do you offer? What types of instruction?

GlobalScholar courses cover a wide range of subjects, from kindergarten language arts to graduate-level business statistics, to test prep, and more. You can even prepare for your state's required test for standards and graduation, with instruction aligned to that states standards and curriculum. We are always adding new subjects and courses.

GlobalScholar offers the following types of instruction:

  • Instant Tutoring is perfect when you have questions and you need help right away.
  • Scheduled Tutoring is best when you know in advance that you will need help. For example, if you have a tough high school Calculus class, you can schedule a time to meet regularly online with a teacher so that you can keep up with classwork.
  • Homework Help provides feedback from a teacher on any kind of assignment. For example, if you have an essay question or a math problem, you can send the question to a teacher and receive guidance or feedback as to how to answer the question yourself.
  • Self-guided Learning Allows you to learn at your own pace, on your own schedule.

When is instruction available?

Teachers work through the GlobalScholar website, website, providing teaching options 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The website is never "closed." When you find a course that meets your needs, you can view the teacher’s availability and purchase time for a session.

Here's how you set up instruction, based on the type of GlobalScholar course:

  • Scheduled Tutoring Schedule specific dates and times for courses.
  • Instant Tutoring Connect with a teacher that is currently online and available at GlobalScholar.
  • Homework Help Submit your questions and a teacher will respond within his or her scheduled hours of availability.
  • Self-guided Learning Learn on your own, at your own pace.

Remember, teachers work through the website and do not work directly for GlobalScholar.

How do I purchase instruction on GlobalScholar?

Purchasing time for instructional sessions on GlobalScholar is quick and easy. Simply sign in or create a new account and browse through our selection of teachers, sorting by subject, grade, and course type. After you select the course and teacher with whom you want to work, purchase the instructional time:

  1. Find a course in which you're interested, and click the course name.
  2. At right, browse the teacher's schedule.
  3. If it's a good match, click Buy Now.
    You'll be prompted to create an account if you have not already done so.
  4. Use your credit card to purchase course time.
  5. Start learning!
    Click Go to Classroom to connect for a session, submit Homework Help questions, or send your teacher a message.

What is the free trial offer for tutoring?

If you're trying to find a tutor or want to try out online learning, try a free trial tutoring session. Working with tutors through free trial sessions is a great way to find the right tutor for the subject and the type of help you want. When you try before you buy, you can get help with a problem, try online tutoring tools, and find a good match for meeting your educational goals. With free trial tutoring, session time is limited, typically to 10 minutes.

To try it, create a GlobalScholar account, if you don't have one. Search or browse for the type of help you want (for example, Homework Help). Find a tutor you think is a good match for your needs and is online now. Follow the instructions on screen to connect. Work online with your tutor, using the site's whiteboard. During a free trial session, you can purchase additional time with the tutor.

After the session, you can typically set up Scheduled Tutoring with the same tutor. Remember, you are limited to one free trial session per tutor.

What is Name Your Price?

Name Your Price is a special offer on GlobalScholar.com that lets you get the help you need for an assignment, your homework, and more at the price you want to pay. Get an answer — when you need it, at the right price.

When you submit a question using Name Your Price, your question goes to many tutors for bidding. This means that if you already have a preferred tutor with whom you'd prefer to work, you should schedule a regular session instead.

Follow these steps to use Name Your Price:

  1. Find the subject area.
    Search or browse for the type of help you want (for example, Homework Help). In the Name Your Price box, click Learn More.
  2. Submit your question.
    Under Name Your Price, select the subject, topic, and grade (for example, 12th grade trigonometry). Type your question and describe it, for instance, to clarify where you need help or what you have already tried to solve a problem. Name a price you want for an answer. Set a deadline. Click Post Question. After tutors review your question, they either accept your price or submit counter offers (bids) to you. You accept the tutor you want.
  3. Review tutor bids.
    Once you receive a tutor reply by e-mail, go to your GlobalScholar home page and, under Name Your Price, review the tutor bid. Make sure this is the right tutor for you, then accept the bid and pay.
  4. Get your answer.
    After you receive an e-mail reply that an answer is ready, go to your GlobalScholar home page and, under Name Your Price, view the response.

If you want, you can return to your GlobalScholar home page later and review the response again.

What is the satisfaction guarantee?

GlobalScholar offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are not happy with your teacher or course, we'll provide you with a full refund: no explanation necessary.

  • If you ever have a problem using the tools on GlobalScholar, contact Customer Service.
  • If you have a problem with a teacher, try to resolve the issue yourself first by working directly with the teacher. If there is still a problem, contact Customer Service. We can either credit instruction time or issue a refund to your account.

What are Free Student Resources?

You can quickly build your skills in a particular area, working when you want, at your own pace — and free of charge. GlobalScholar's Free Student Resources are online lessons and activities from a variety of quality curriculum providers.

Here's how it works:

  • Decide which skill areas interest you or where you need help (for example, math or economics).
  • Search GlobalScholar's Free Student Resources for lessons you want.
  • After find and select a lesson, complete it on the online curriculum website.

There are no fees for these lessons.

To learn online using Free Student Resources

  1. On the GlobalScholar home page, browse the courses under Free Student Resources.
  2. Review the many resources available, and find the topic you want.
  3. To learn about available lessons, read the descriptions and check the grade levels.
  4. When you find a resource that interests you, next to the topic, click View Details.
  5. When you're ready start the lesson, click Open Link.

  6. Your lesson opens on the curriculum website.
  7. Start learning.
    Simply follow the instructions on screen.

What is GlobalScholar's Teacher No-Show refund policy

A student qualifies for a teacher no-show refund in either of the following situations:

  1. There was no interaction between the teacher and the student.
  2. The teacher did not connect and wait through the first five minutes of the session for the student to join.

How do I schedule a course?

After you find a course and choose a teacher, you can check the teacher's schedule and find what types of instruction the teacher offers.

  • Instant Tutoring: Check the teacher’s schedule. If the teacher is currently online at GlobalScholar, you can purchase the instructional time and start it immediately.
  • Scheduled Tutoring: Check the teacher’s schedule and then select a classtime. If you don't find a classtime that's convenient, you can go ahead and purchase the instructional time, then schedule a classtime.
  • Homework Help: Submit your questions anytime. Teachers respond to your question based on their schedules and the indicated assignment completion time.

How do I cancel an appointment?

If you cancel a session one day (24 hours) before it starts, you're not charged for the session, and you have the option to reschedule. If you cancel within 24 hours of the session, you'll be charged for it.

To cancel a session, click My GlobalScholar, and, on the left, click Account. Under Account (left), click Purchases. Find the purchase you want to cancel, and then click View Details. Above the order summary, click the cancellation link.

How do I contact my teacher?

After you purchase instructional time, you e-mail your teacher through GlobalScholar's online classroom.

Remember GlobalScholar protects your privacy by hiding your personal e-mail address.

  1. Sign in to GlobalScholar.
  2. Click My GlobalScholar.
  3. On the left, click Classes Attending.
  4. Click the appropriate course.
  5. At the online classroom page, under Send Message, click Click Here.
  6. Prepare and send your message.

How can I share files with my teacher?

You share files by uploading them to GlobalScholar's online classroom. Examples of files you can share include Microsoft Word documents, web links, or scanned assignments.

To share files with your teacher

  1. Sign in to GlobalScholar.
  2. Click My GlobalScholar.
  3. On the left, click Classes Attending.
  4. Locate the course you want and click its name.
  5. At the page that appears, under Classroom File Resources, click Upload File.

What should I do if I can’t get the whiteboard to open?

Students and teachers use GlobalScholar's whiteboard as a communications tool. If you try to connect for a Scheduled Tutoring session or an Instant Tutoring session and you can’t open the whiteboard, try the following:

  • Make sure that your web browser's pop-up blocker has been disabled.
  • Check your firewall settings for parental controls. Make sure http://www.globalscholar.com is an "allowed" website, and that it is not blocked.
  • If you are using a satellite Internet connection with this site, try using another type of high-speed, broadband Internet connection, for example, cable or DSL.
  • If there is still a problem, contact Customer Service.
