Biographical Information:
Now a seventh-grade math teacher at Lexington Middle School in Lexington, Genia Webb has helped many students in grades 6-8 who previously did not pass the state assessment achieve a passing score. By providing them with supplementary standards-based instruction using brain-based learning strategies that motivate them to learn, she helped 47 percent of these students move beyond the below-basic category in math, and 40 percent in English and language arts. She chairs committees for curriculum and instruction, professional development, and the Palmetto Achievement Challenges Test (PACT), and serves on the leadership team for the school's Making Middle Grades Work initiative. A frequent presenter, Webb has shared her ideas at local, state and national conferences. The success of these presentations led her to establish her own consulting firm, The Next Level Educational Group, through which she has provided professional development for school districts throughout South Carolina, as well as in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. With a philosophy of teaching that "All students can fly. Some just fly differently," Genia Webb has demonstrated a talent for helping Lexington students take flight.
