Biographical Information:
Justin Singleton uses highly creative and innovative lessons to teach world geography, world history, psychology and sociology at Carver High School in Houston. Not content to simply "cover" a topic, Singleton constantly explores new techniques, strategies and materials to make his lessons come alive, often dressing up in costume to make history more vivid for his students. As a National History Day sponsor, Singleton has led several of his students to state and national competitions, where they have been awarded fourth, sixth and eighth place in the nation. His superior skills as an educator have helped 95 percent of his tenth graders pass the state social studies test, with 99 percent of his seniors passing the social studies portion of the high school exit exam. As sponsor of the Carver High School chapter of the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE), Singleton not only helps students learn about the teaching profession, but provides through his own teaching a shining example of how profoundly a teacher can impact young minds.
