My name is Lisa Rodriguez and I’ve been a bilingual elementary school teacher for over 20 years. I have a Masters degree in education with a specialization in Bilingual Education. I believe that learning a second language is one of best things a person can do because it enables you to communicate with more people. Professionally, when two people with equal skills apply for a job, the bilingual person will almost always get the job. Being bilingual will not only increase your employment opportunities, it usually leads to a higher salary. If you are taking Spanish and feeling frustrated with all the verb conjugations and boring drill, I can help you. Learning language should be fun and meaningful.
I have been teaching elementary school since 1987 in California and Oregon. I’ve been the computer teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Woodburn, Oregon for the past four years. I created and lead the US/China Club in which students communicate with students in China via email, multimedia presentations, sound files, etc. I have taught evening computer classes in Spanish to our students' Spanish speaking parents. I created and led the Student Tech Leader program in which elementary students learned computer construction and troubleshooting. Currently I am in the Ph.D. in Education program at Walden University with a specialization in Educational Technology. I received an AA in Interpreting for the Deaf in 1983, a BA in Liberal Studies and my initial teaching license from Cal State Northridge in 1987, a bilingual (Spanish) license from Cal Lutheran University in 1993 and I completed my MS in Education at Western Oregon University in 2002. I have completed several courses in E-Learning at Portland State University. I currently serve as the chairperson of the Lincoln Elementary School Technology Committee and as a member of the Woodburn School District Strategic Plan Team.
