My teaching career began as I started coaching youth sports, leading wilderness trips, and peer tutoring in high school. I have been an independent school classroom teacher for my entire professional career over the last 17 years. My first four years of teaching took place at the Culver Academies in Culver, Indiana. I taught AP US History and US history for non-native speakers. I also coached lacrosse, basketball and soccer while living in the dorms and supervising the kids. I left Culver to move to Seattle and attend the School of Education at the University of Washington. I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction while studying the use of technology in education and issues in multicultural education. I began teaching history at the Overlake School in Redmond as I was finishing my Master's. While classroom teaching during the school year, I spent 10 summer leading teens through 7 week long wilderness trips in the Tetons of Wyoming. I also earned my Emergency Medical Technician certification and became a Wilderness First Aid instructor and Wilderness First Responder instructor for the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS. During this past year, I have had just two full time students as I have been teaching my 1.5 year old son and my 3 year old daughter how to get along in life.
